September 23, 2024
Introducing the role of the Student Enrichment Team at HKU Business School in supporting students' holistic development and preparing them for future career success.

At HKU Business School, the Student Enrichment Team plays a vital role in helping students grow both personally and academically. They create an environment where students can unlock their full potential. Ms. Do Do So, Director of MSc Alumni and Student Services, shared her insights into the team’s mission to support students on their journey.

Holistic Support for Students

According to Ms. Do Do So, the Student Enrichment Team focuses on five key areas: Personal Development and Wellness, Professional Training and Seminars, Networking and Team Building, Communication Skills, and Hard Skills Training. She explained, "We understand that to make your time at HKU Business School enjoyable and fulfilling, it’s not just about studying. It's also about having the chance to explore new areas and meet different people."

The team organizes a variety of workshops, events, and activities that help students develop critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills while also allowing them to engage with the professional world.

Listening to Students and Adapting Support

The team places great emphasis on understanding students' needs to tailor their support effectively. Ms. Do Do So highlighted the importance of regular feedback, saying, "We conduct surveys and collect feedback after each activity. We also have a Student Experience Survey to assess overall satisfaction, support services, campus facilities, and skill development workshops." This feedback helps the team continuously improve and provide a more enriching educational environment.

To stay connected with students, the team hosts monthly Student Experience Chit-chats, informal open houses where students can freely share their concerns and challenges with the Student Experience Managers. "We want to ensure students receive the best support throughout their university life, both academically and personally," Ms. Do Do So added.

Building a Strong Student Community

One of the exciting upcoming initiatives is the launch of a Virtual House System for master’s students. This system aims to foster a sense of belonging within the MSc community by creating a platform where students can engage, organize extracurricular activities, and connect socially. Under the guidance of House Masters, students will have the opportunity to strengthen their network and participate in meaningful events.

Flagship Programs and Opportunities

The Student Enrichment Team also offers several flagship programs designed to enhance students' professional and personal development. One of the standout programs is the Mentorship Programme, which pairs students with industry mentors to gain real-world insights into their chosen fields. As Ms. Do Do So explained, "It’s not just about career exploration—our Mentorship Programme also helps build strong connections within the master’s community and with professionals."

In addition to the mentorship program, students can become Student Ambassadors or join Student Clubs. Student Ambassadors act as leaders and representatives of the university, engaging with peers and promoting the school. Meanwhile, Student Clubs provide students with practical, hands-on business experience, allowing them to develop skills in operations, marketing, finance, and human resources.

Looking Ahead

With so many exciting programs and events ahead, the Student Enrichment Team is committed to ensuring students at HKU Business School not only excel academically but also thrive personally. Through innovative support systems and a strong sense of community, the team empowers students to make the most of their university experience and prepare for successful futures.
