Admissions Requirements

For admission to the Master's Programmes, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a recognized bachelor's degree or its equivalent;
  • Provide statements from two referees assessing their suitability for the programme;
  • Submit a TOEFL/IELTS* score if you are not from an English-medium university. The minimum score requirement is TOEFL: 80 | IELTS: 6 (with no subtest below 5.5).
  • While GMAT/GRE scores are not obligatory, a high score can be viewed favorably and prove advantageous, especially in marginal cases.
  • Typically, interviews are not required as part of the admissions process.

Please note that TOEFL and IELTS score reports are valid for two years, while GMAT score reports remain valid for five years. For instance, if you submit your application on October 2, 2020, only TOEFL/IELTS tests taken after October 1, 2018, are considered valid. Additionally, please ensure that you arrange to submit the official test report to us on time, as the testing authorities may not issue your report once the test result has expired.

The Master of Accounting programme at HKU Business School offers three specialized streams, allowing students to tailor their studies based on individual interests and career goals. Students can select from the following streams:

Curriculum Structure




Every year, we recruit students from various backgrounds to enhance the richness of your learning journey. To ensure that all students possess the essential knowledge and skills necessary to meet the criteria for professional accounting accreditations, mandatory boot camp courses will be conducted. These courses will cover the following business topics:


Each topic comprises 15 hours of interactive lectures, culminating in an examination at the conclusion of the course. Students must attend all classes and successfully complete both boot camp courses.

Additionally, a refresher course on fundamental accounting concepts will be available to reinforce students' accounting skills.


Single Concentration

The programme provides three specialization options:


1) Accounting Analytics Big Data

2) Financial Reporting and Valuation

3) Strategic Management and Corporate Governance


Students have the flexibility to focus on one of these streams based on their interests and career goals. Alternatively, students may opt to graduate without a specific concentration, given they fulfill the requirements of completing the seven fundamental core courses, any one of the capstone courses, and four electives.


Students must successfully complete a total of 12 courses, including:


Double Concentration

Students have the option to attain a degree with a double concentration in any two of the three areas, contingent on the successful completion of all core courses in both areas, along with three electives. Typically, students can accomplish a double concentration within one year.

Completion of a total of 14 courses is mandatory for students pursuing a double concentration, with an additional course fee of HKD30,000 per course.

The Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSc(BA)) programme at the HKU Business School provides a comprehensive curriculum aimed at developing both hard and soft skills in business analytics. There is currently a high demand in the industry for business analytics professionals, and the programme offers a wide range of elective options, allowing students to specialize in various focus areas. The Capstone Project is a real-world business analytics project in which students collaborate with reputable corporations in the region. Curriculum Structure

Every year, we recruit students from various backgrounds to enhance the learning experience in our program. To ensure that everyone starts with a similar foundation for the upcoming studies, we conduct a Boot Camp covering fundamental concepts in mathematical techniques, programming, databases, and statistics relevant to business analytics. The Boot Camp is a compulsory course for all MSc(BA) students, comprising 30 hours of instruction and taking place before the start of the first module.


Those without a strong quantitative background can develop necessary skills through the Boot Camp, while those with existing quantitative skills can use the opportunity to update and reinforce their relevant abilities.



Our program provides a thorough learning experience covering various fields, such as big data techniques, business statistics, simulation and forecasting models, operations and supply chain management, and financial and marketing analytics. The curriculum is organized as follows:

  • Information Analytics: Understanding the fundamentals of data.

The programme, which will have an interdisciplinary academic focus, will be co-hosted by the HKU Business School and ICCN, in collaboration with the Faculties of Science, Social Sciences, Engineering, Architecture, Law, and Public Health. To deliver the program, these entities share a common mission to translate climate change and environmental research into real-world impact.
