On October 4, 2024, the final round of the HKU Vietnam Innovation Contest took place, celebrating outstanding and innovative ideas from talented young individuals.

On October 4, 2024, the grand finale of the HKU Vietnam Innovation Contest 2024 took place in an atmosphere of excitement and inspiration. This event was organized to celebrate the second anniversary of the University of Hong Kong’s Vietnam office and attracted over 100 passionate young innovators from various countries, including international students from the U.S., Canada, South Korea, and China.


After more than a month of competition and evaluation of 150 submissions, the final night honored the Top 5 outstanding projects. Following intense and thrilling rounds, the contest crowned the Top 3 winners.

Nguyen Quoc Huy won First Prize with his project, the HKU Mekong Delta Sustainability & Climate Research Unit (M-SCRU). His project not only showcased creativity but also a far-reaching vision for sustainable development and climate change research in the Mekong Delta, contributing to strategic research for the future of Vietnam.

Tran Ngoc Binh secured the Second Prize with the NEXTGEN INNOVATORS project, which demonstrated exceptional creative thinking in fostering the next generation of innovation leaders.

Truong Tran Dang Minh took Third Prize with his project, VR HEADSETS, which applies virtual reality technology to education and entertainment.

Two Consolation Prizes were awarded to Doan Vo Minh Quy for the project MOBILE TELEHEALTH FOR RURAL CARE, and Bui Song Tung Chi for the project GREENITIATIVE.

Beyond the attractive prizes, the contest provided invaluable experiences for all participants. It was not only an opportunity to showcase their creativity but also to learn from and connect with leading experts, receiving valuable guidance and feedback from the judging panel. The contest helped participants hone essential skills such as public speaking, teamwork, and project management while broadening their perspectives on fields like research, education, and community development.

The competition also encouraged contestants to face real-world challenges, fostering creative solutions that contribute to society. By exchanging ideas and sharing knowledge, the young innovators had the opportunity to learn from each other and grow holistically.

Prizes for the contest included:

  • First Prize: A trip to the University of Hong Kong worth VND 30 million, a two-month internship at HKU Vietnam, a full English scholarship at YOLA worth VND 18.8 million, and a VND 10 million voucher for study abroad consulting at MAX Education.
  • Second Prize: VND 5 million in cash, a 50% scholarship for an English course at YOLA, and a VND 5 million voucher for study abroad consulting at MAX Education.
  • Third Prize: VND 2 million in cash, a 50% scholarship at YOLA, and a VND 5 million voucher for study abroad consulting at MAX Education.
  • Consolation Prizes: Two prizes of VND 1 million in cash and a 15% discount voucher for an English course at YOLA.

The HKU Vietnam Innovation Contest 2024 was more than just an award ceremony; it served as a launchpad for young innovators to advance in their academic and professional journeys. Through their creative ideas, participants demonstrated immense potential in shaping the future and contributing to a more sustainable society.
